Great Business Model

Think about it this way. If you were building a great big house on weak foundation, it may seem okay at first, but eventually there are going to be major problems.

The same is true with a home business.

A legitimate online home business isn't about "get rich quick" or "free" - remember, you get what you pay for! A home business is about having a good business model, a business model that has been proven to work and will allow you to build your business long term.

Training & Leadership

For many, having an online home business is a completely new experience, so don't go it alone. Whenever we want to be successful at something in life, we should find someone who is having success and do what they are doing.

The same applies here.

There are many successful home business owners out there, so finding good leadership is extremely vital. This can save you from making so many mistakes and can shorten your learning curve by months or even years.

Make sure your mentor can offer you not only leadership, but extensive training as well. Starting your own home business is going to force you to learn many new exciting skills, no short cuts here. It's crucial to stay focused, but just as critical that you have the appropriate training available.

Leverage

Leverage is a big one. Being able to leverage your time is one of the best rewards to having your own online home business. It's great to be able to do something only once, and then reap the benefits over and over again, for years to come.

Something else to take into account when we talk about leverage is the training we mentioned above. It is important to consider how you are going to train new distributors as they join your team. It will be your responsibility to mentor and help them, but are you going to be responsible for all of the training yourself? Or does your business model have a training platform in place that will take care of that for you?

As home business owners, we want to enjoy the time freedom this industry provides us. It's important to have a training platform in place so we are not spending our time week after week fully training each new member of our team ourselves!

Discipline

Discipline is vital and shouldn't be overlooked. Many of us come into this business with an employee mindset. We go to work, do our "job" and then we get paid. We work for a specified number of hours and are compensated for our time.

Well, this is all about to change.

When you are running an online home business, no one cares how much time you work. This may seem harsh, but it's true. It's about working smart and getting results, not about the hours that you work. Committing yourself day in and day out to getting results is the most important way to spend your time!

There isn't going to be a boss or anyone standing over you making sure you do your job. No more time clock. No more "paycheck." It is critical to be disciplined in order to create success in your home business. This can be harder than most think, but if you are disciplined, the rewards are huge.

Focus

Great. You are disciplined enought to sit down to do your work, but are you focused? This one can be a struggle for all home business owners, novices and veterans alike. You're watching a training video on YouTube which brings you to another video, then another...and before you know it, you are watching a video of a dog running in his sleep!

Having a well-written "To-Do" list can be the difference between a profitable home business and a "hobby." Some people write their lists the night before, some prefer to do it in the morning. Some write them on a white board, some use a text document on the computer and others just write them on a piece of paper.

It doesn't matter where and when you do it, but it does matter that you do do it. How are we going to know that we're done for the day and that we accomplished what we needed to if we don't have a list? Working "on the fly" may feel like it works for a while, but in the end maintaining a focused effort will make all the difference in the world.

Mindset

This one must not be overlooked. The right mindset can be the difference in your business being successful or not. It is absolutely critical that you believe in what you are doing.

Period.

If you are just "trying out" your business to see if it "works," let me tell you: it won't work. It's that simple.

Our businesses grow in direct correlation to our own personal growth. Personal development is vital to entrepreneurs. In fact, I've never met a successful home business owner who hasn't spent a considerable amount of time on personal development and working on their mindset.

Again, there is a shift from being an employee to being a home business owner. There is a mindset shift from $45,000 being a yearly income goal to a monthly income goal. We are programmed to believe we have certain limitations in life. Most of us are taught that in order to be successful, we need to go to school, get good grades, go to college and get a good job and that's our only real option to having success in our lives.

We need to reprogram our thinking and understand that this is simply not true..

I can tell you from experience that personal development has been vital to the success of our business and I truly don't think anyone can have long term success without the right mindset.

Passion

Do you get excited about your business or are you ashamed of it? Does your business feel like a job? Are you inspired to help others be successful in starting and running their own home business? The last thing you want is for your business to feel like "work" or be something you don't enjoy because then you most likely won't spend much time on it. If you don't put the time into building your home business, it's not very likely that it will be successful.

That's why it's so vital that you are passionate when it comes to your business. It is also critical that you are passionate about why you want to be successful and that you have specific reasons as to why you started a home business in the first place.

Keep in mind that while you may be inclined to say it's about the money, that's not the specific enough. Money is really just a vehicle to allow you the freedom to do/have what you want in your life.

What is it that you would like in your life?

* Do you want to be able to spend more time with your family?
* Do you want to be able to sit down every night to dinner with your kids?
* Do you want to be able to travel the world?
* Do you want to be able to dedicate time to your favorite charity?
* Do you want to start your own charity?
* Or do you just want to be able to get up without an alarm clock and work in your pajamas...?

No matter what the reason, it has to be something you are very passionate about because if you aren't, you may lose the drive to succeed. It might seem to be easier to just go back to your job and keep collecting your paycheck.

So find your passion and nurture it! That is what will propel you to succeed and that will be what keeps you going when things might seem tough!
